My Story

By Holly Herman

I am most proud of…

After graduating from Georgetown University in 1981, with a brief stop in Fargo, North Dakota to see my family, I headed to San Diego, California to start my career.  San Diego has the nicest weather I could imagine.

Lessons learned:  Going away to school and moving to a brand new location teach a person to figure it out, you’re growing when you feel uncomfortable, and you can make friends everywhere you go.

At 32 I became CEO of a large yet failing credit union in San Diego.  We turned it around and it remains a strong financial institution serving state employees in California.

Lessons learned:  You can make it up.  It’s ok to be scared.  Ask for help.  Follow your instincts.  Surround yourself with incredible people.

I was recruited to lead Kraft Foods Federal Credit Union in New York.  During my ten years as CEO we grew the credit union to serve the employees of Altria nationwide.

Lessons learned:  If you believe, everyone else will too.  There is nothing you can’t do.  Your only limitations are the ones you place on yourself.  It’s not that hard.  You will never be completely ready.

During my time as CEO I completed a two year program as an Executive Coach.  I also ran 20 different marathons.  I met and married my wonderful husband.

Lessons learned:  Patience and focus.  Listening well is a skill that can take your career to new levels.

I was honored to be a political appointee to the National Credit Union Administration and served as Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff for JoAnn Johnson, Chairman.

Lessons learned:  The regulatory process and what a government agency is all about.  The importance of networking and keeping in touch.

I started my own business in 2007.  I’m able to continually learn and devote myself to my passion – making a difference in the lives of others.

Lessons learned:  You can create something out of nothing.  Ask and most people say “yes”.  Helping others is what it is all about!

It’s all about you…

I’ve made mistakes along the way and wished I knew then what I know now.  Having been there and done that, I can save you time with great tips and coaching to move your career and/or business forward.  I’ve created a lot of solutions for you.
