What’s in your New Year?

The new year is right around the corner.  It’s a chance for me to make incremental changes to the things I do – both personally and professionally.  I know that I could do this throughout the year – its just that I don’t seem to get around to it.

Time is Precious

When I’m engaged in something I love to do or I’m completely focused on a task at hand, time seems to slip away at the speed of sound.  As I grow older, days, weeks and months seem to go very fast.

Whenever I’m waiting for something to happen, a call back from a potential client, the bus to take me home or, when I was little, Santa to come – time seems to stand still.

I recently attended a panel discussion where I was reminded of the power of appreciation.  The panel consisted of people who had foundations to give away money.  The question was asked, what has been your most important lesson when it comes to fund raising?  The answer – remember to thank your contributors!

SHOUT IT OUT!

I work with a lot of people who are ready to move ahead with their careers.  They want the promotion and the next position that’s come open.  They come to me wondering why they’ve gotten passed by, disappointed, frustrated or downright angry they aren’t sitting in a new seat.
